My family of origin is highly dysfunctional. While it was hard to give up the fantasy of a supportive and loving extended family, I just had to. Emotional, psychological, and physical abuse, is no longer an option, for me, in relationships. OP, you can build a good life for your children and self with a family of friends. You will have to grieve your dysfunctional family first and then get on with it. [/quote]
