Buying the latest and greatest is important to people who are lacking in many other ways in their lives.  It is their cross to bear, not mine.  OP, if you know she is selfish, you should also know that she will never, ever change.

IMO, selfish people are born that way, and they are also enabled by others to get what they want, so they have no incentive to change.  GL.
