The school is not obligated to tell the students that the teacher's mother is sick, her grandmother just died, or her brother is getting married. "Off for vacation" may simply mean she will be out for some time. Sick days would not cover vacation time. In many situations a substitute for a few days is fine. All they have to do is provide work that the teacher has left behind based on what has been or will be covered.[/quote]
