Hfm is usually no big deal, according to our pediatrician. He told us to give our toddler tylenol or ibeprofin if he was uncomfortable and to just make sure he stayed hydrated because some kids don't drink enough. Due to painful mouth sores, and popsicles are a good way to get liquid into them in that case. My DS's case last month started out as op described, and looked horrible, but he really felt fine. I would take to the ped on Tues to confirm hfm and get a note about. When your kid can return to daycare if applicable.
I second all that except we didn't go to the ped. I called them, and they told me when she could return to daycare (and when I'd need to bring her in, but that proved to be unnecessary).
