Besides playing in college and scholarships that come with that, what are some other benefits of playing?
The camaraderie with the other players, in my oldest sons case he has made some amazing friendships with his fellow players, has a great connection with his coaches and it has no doubt really elevated the college experience for him, the thrill of getting to play on a big stage in front of big crowds is exhilarating and the icing on the cake after his devotion in high school to the sport. He is a solid student but there are many resources for the athletes in the way of tutors/enrichment/remedial help. They get to plan their schedules ahead of the vast majority of students to accommodate practice/game schedules. In the case of my son who is going D3, it is all the above less the extra help, that for the most part is not offered and typically these kids are already a very solid student academically, this is at least my understanding as them getting in on the merit of their lacrosse talent is as relevant as their academics. One cannot replace the other with D3.
