I was moved to learn that as a new band, they signed with a production company, not a music producer per se. Several of their performance choices were in an effort to get out from the production company's hold, including performing in South Africa in 1984 (during apartheid). They were labeled as supporters of apartheid for doing so, but it sounds like their really just wanted to perform where they could find fans and money.

And. Freddie himself was awfully talented, wrote and composed a lot of their music; he was self-conscious about playing the piano during shows because he was nervous about messing up. 
We all know of his theatrics, but the biopic exposed a sensitive and vulnerable side to him. He was basically searching for love and validation his entire life. 
In retrospect, many of Queen's songs now seem to sweet to me!
