Sept: How do I prep my child for the CogAT? Leads to a discussion on the pros/cons of test prep, peyton manning, etc. Someone calls it GoCAT. Long treads about scamming... Nov: When will we get the CogAT results --- what will be the in pool cut off? Answer given... Jan: CogAT's posted...accusations of prepping...advice on how to refer....discussions on the unfairness of the subjective nature of it: some say it should be all test..others point out that one day means nothing...others point out the scores biased by test prep....Someone talks about how the kid was distracted (Puppy the night before). Who can administer the WISC quickly enough... Feb: People wondering if there kid has a chance? Parent report on lower test performing kids that got in...usually floor around 120. Discussion of how AAP is too watered down... Mar-Apr: The evils/bragging about the GBRS, as the scores come in. Accusations of parents "bribing" for GBRS based on volunteering...discussion of subjective nature of scores. Someone will point out the the tests are biased too (has not happened yet in 2014). Accusations of AART's accepting bribes (both Satire and real) will appear. Mid April: Someone will post that they heard form the commettee that there kid is in. People start calling the school to wonder why they haven't heard...first post was a joke. But, people call Carol Horn to find out when they will hear. Late April - Early May: Decisions come out. Someone will compile a list of in/out vs GBRS/COGAT/NNAT. Parents brag. In the real world, Kids don't care...they play and tell poop jokes. Early-mid May: Discussions on WISC/Prep for Wisc/who to go to for WISCs....This can be the most intense because the parents are desperate. Mid-late May: Discussion of scores on the WISC compared to GBRS/CogAT, proving the GBRS is biased....prepping discussion comes in: accusations fly. Jeff comes in and calms us down. Also, what to put in the appeal/reports on appeals submitted. Mid June: When will we hear about the appeal? Late June: Appeal results in...people complain about subjectivity...someone compiles list of WISC and in/out. Also Late June: rising second grade parents ask for summer enrichment for the kids -- meaning how to prep them for the CogAT... Summer: How to get the rising third graders ready for AAP? (Answer: let them play). Fall: go to first line of this list.
Meh, it is the same thing for a wedding planning forum or a trying to conceive forum or a pregnant forum. People going through the same thing at the same time converge and discuss questions, ideas, thoughts, experiences, etc.
