So how many have seen the worn in a package of fish from Costco? Have you ever found them? I have.
(WSPA) SPARTANBURG, S.C. - A video showing a live worm inside a package of fresh fish at the Costco in Spartanburg County is going viral on the Internet. The video posted on Facebook by Binh Nguyen has more than 227,000 shares. Many of you wrote 7 On Your Side, asking is this safe? How can something like this happen? Can you get sick from eating this fish? We took those questions straight to the source. Craig Wilson, Vice President of Quality Assurance and Food Safety, confirms that a nematode was found in the package of wild pacific cod fillet earlier this month. A nematode is a parasitic roundworm. "Although it's, quite frankly, disgusting, I wish I could tell you it's very very uncommon," said Wilson. He said ground fish like cod and sole are prone to parasites called nematodes like the worm in the film. The fish go through a candling process layed out on a lit table. "Around these conveyor tables are employees of the seafood company that are doing nothing but looking for parasites," said Wilson. He said it's rare to miss one of these worms, but also said the nematode poses no health risk to humans unless ingested along with raw cod. He said cod fish should always be cooked thoroughly before consumption. He tells us the fish was not sold. It was instead removed from the case by managers.
http://www.wsav.com/story/25023592/worm-in-package-of-fish-at-spartanburg-costco-goes-viral
