I've had two friends lose cats to bad anesthesia reactions.[/quote] anesthesia is much safer now than even 10 yrs. ago, how long ago was it (your friends' losses)? same or different vets? it's rare in any case though not unheard of. if needed the dental cleaning is not unimportant, and 10 yrs. old is a good time to do it, cat is far better able to tolerate anesthesia then than when it's a geriatric cat and may need it later. dental issues can lead to infections and abscesses, which can also be dangerous to your cat.
