Personally, I would like a G&T program. An overall strong middle school with targeted advanced offerings, so that G&T kids are not wholly isolated from the general student body would be a draw. I am interested in strong arts and humanities as well as math. And if it were done well, I would consider sending my children that are IB for Deal and likely to stay so based on any rational geographic basis. That is one way to pull kids from across the city and relieve the pressure on Deal.
This sounds great but a true G/T program is just not going to happen in DC. Although it would work miracles in keeping high SES families committed to upper grades in DCPS. Kaya is just too short sighted and her hands are tied politically to do anything that would be percieved to be catering to white families.
