Cornell regularly admits kids who get turned down by other Ivies, and that's just the way it is. A "lesser Ivy" is still better than 99% of the schools out there. [/quote] I agree that Cornell is a great school that is less selective than other schools in its athletic conference. Beyond that, however, the Ivy or bust mentality implicit in your statement is just another example of the obsession with Ivies that ends up channeling many kids into schools that aren't the best choice for them. Is Cornell "better than" the following schools: Stanford, MIT, CalTech, Chicago, Duke, Northwestern, Rice, Williams, Pomona, Swarthmore, Middlebury, Michigan, UVA . . .? The answer is complicated and will be different for every student. [/quote]
