I am now taking an extended maternity leave (going on 11 months) but as an RN I was pulling in about 120K (depending on overtime) so it was pretty much all DH.  I plan on going back to work in another 6-9 months and will probably go down to part-time until DS is school aged (so maybe 60K a year) and then will arrange my shifts back to full time so that DH and I split child care duties once DS is in school full time.  I realize that my salary will mean nothing when I go part time since we will be employing a nanny, but I think it is important for me to get back into the line of work so I can go full time when DS is older. OP here.  I didn't ask the prior question, but I would agree that you should keep occupied with something meaningful.  You don't have to kill yourself, and it doesn't necessarily have to be lucrative, but definitely having something that gets you out the door on a regular basis is good for the soul.[/quote]
