At the same time, the job offer appeals to him and he realistically does not like to spend all of his evenings and weekends at work (and in this sense is probably not entirely willing to do what it takes to make more than $150,000/year.)

To me, the new job opportunity seems like a good option, especially in this economy (and especially with so many law grads looking for work).
