Today, I received a job offer in my high demand field which provides better benefits, significant increase in salary, and a private company that is well-grounded, well-known, and international. I had casually looked at them six months ago but with the nonsense that is going on, and my financial security being held hostage, I will accept their offer. I only have a few years with the government so I'm not a lifer with much to lose. Although I'm in my early 40's and had initially planned to just ride it out with the government for a couple of decades, I can't justify my previous plan to do this. There is too much uncertainty and, personally, I find this whole shutdown situation, with absolutely no regard for working people and their obligations, to be distasteful, mean spirited, self-serving, and embarrassing to my country. This refusal to put forward a new CR because it will embarrass the speaker (Fox interview), shutting down the country because of health insurance, and not reopening the government while the issues are being hashed out is beyond comprehension. I no longer want to be an internal part of this financial and political travesty but will continue to voice my disapproval in another employment venue. Saying you have passed a law for back pay but not knowing when I will be paid creates unnecessary personal disruption. Your word no longer means anything to me and is worthless. I will now leave my supervisor a voicemail giving my two week notice, and I will call my bank and halt any direct deposits. I have no government property or work at home. I will not ask my supervisor or any government entity for permission to work in order to keep my car, home, help feed my family, and make my contributions to organizations that help others. I refuse to be held financial and mental hostage any longer. The interview below was the final nail in the coffin, and the cavalier attitude from republicans about government employees. Pitiful. http://www.myfoxdc.com/video?clipId=9389514&topVideoCatNo=233138&autoStart=true#axzz2h65u2tqO
