Niece went there, a nice southern girl who is a little preppy and lasted until the first semester. She said most people were Jewish which she was fine with but most of the girls she became friends with weren't available on Friday nights because they went to celebrate Shabbas (sp)? and most of the guys were gay, though super nice and cool...she just never found her place. She is at Wake Forest now and super happy.
This is either hilarious or intended to provoke. Most students at NYU aren't Jewish. I'm an ex NY'er and actually worked at NYU some years ago, and I'm fairly closely in touch with the place. It's an incredibly diverse urban university where there are three jillion of everything. I think anybody who wants to can do well and function socially there. The real obstacles, in my view, are the cost (there's an argument that nothing short of an Ivy is worth anywhere near that kind of $), and housing access.
