My son gets one for about a month in the beginning of the summer for lacrosse tournaments. He is 12 and has been doing it for past 2 summers. I hate it, agree it looks trashy BUT hair is a very easy thing to let a kid experiment with as it can be cut again and grows out fairly quickly. Honestly I think allowing them choices regarding personal apperance when its okay (like in summer) when key are young will wad off possible teenage rebellion when they are older.
Um, yeah, in regard to the poors thing, 12 year old boys definitely don't even know or care what that means. I am way too comfortable in who I am to even worry about such a shallow and tacky assessment. Call me whatever you when my son has his mohawk. I care much more about making sure he is happy and feels able to express himself than I do about the opinion of some random, insecure poser. AND, just to be clear, my son attends a top private, is a great student, great lacrosse player, good and decent person, kind and thoughtful, and usually dresses about as preppy as it gets. He is also darn cute. A summer Mohawk at 12 years old (or 10, 11, or whatever age) does nothing to lessen who he is and if you judge him poorly for it (pun intended) then you are the fool.
