Make sure he gets enough exercise. (I don't have personal experience with severe ADHD but have read that kids with ADHD need min 1-1.5 hours of exercise a day and lots of time in nature.) No red or yellow food colored foods. More protein, esp. in morning. There are calming supplements as well. Perhaps consult What's Eating your Child (book). Village Green Apothecary is a good store for supplements. Good luck OP.
We go to village green also to get Valerian Supercalm. It helps him relax at night...on some nights. The red and green colored foods refers to food coloring, not the natural color of foods. As far as exercise, my own DS (I am different from OP) can't sit still either. He's bouncing off the wall at home. However, try to get him outside and he barely moves. He walks around on the lawn checking out bugs or sits on the swing. He also doesn't play sports. So I'd be interested in what others suggest to OP as my own child has similar issues. :(
