We are considering using NDI to build a new house for us in NOVA. Would like to get some feedback from those of you that have use them before. Specifically, 1. How is the quality of their work? 2. Are they easy to work with and stick to the time table? 3. The price quote on their website is always for a full but unfinished basement, if you factor in the cost of finishing up a basement, plus the site work (permit fees et at), is NDI still very competitive in terms of their price? 4. are the appliances, cabinets and fixtures good quality or are they just builder grade basic? 5. If you don't like NDI, who would you recommend? I prefer to work with a company that have existing plans to save me the headache of have to decide everything myself. Thanks for any thoughts you have on this.
We built a house with NDI four years ago. The quality is fine. We did not consider ourselves to be building our dream house. Four years in, we have had no major problems. There are a few minor issues, like hardwood floors getting small gaps as the house settles. But, overall, we get a ton of compliments on our house and we are generally happy. They were very easy to work with - we liked the process and they stayed on time, yes. We did not have our basement finished - we did it separately a year later. We spent less money doing it that way. Having said that, the overall cost of our NDI house was very reasonable and I think even if we had done the basement with NDI, it still would have been a competitive price. Appliances = very good. Fixtures = good quality, kind of boring/generic looking. Cabinets = I like them, but I'm not super picky. We definitely would build with NDI again. One of the nice things was that they had modest house plans that fit into the neighborhood into which we were moving. We were very conscious that we did not want to build some crazy 7,000 SF house in a neighborhood full of 1940's bungalows.
