beware craigslist.  i share this story with you not to highlight that i did something stupid (which i fully admit i did) but that the extra cash is not necessarily worth the risk.  i 'sold' my car to someone on craiglist and they gave me a bad check.  it cleared right before the thanksgiving holiday weekend and reversed the following tuesday.  guess who was no longer answering the phone or email??  and yes i *know* i should have gone to the bank with them to get the cash but he could only come at a certain time in the evening after banks were closed (red flag).  i was so excited someone finally wanted my old car i jumped on it.

he did end up getting caught and serving time in jail, and i got full restitution, but it took 18 months and i had to be a witness in court.  just not worth the hassle.  go to carmax.  i recently sold my '08 BMW there and they had the best price - we shopped multiple dealers and they came out ahead by almost $1k.
