Love my fitbit. Super easy to get started. For any activity you'd have to manually log in the calories. For example, you'd tell it how long you rode your bike for and it would compute your calories burned.
Can't fitbit measure your activity while you are riding? Why is there a need to input the activity?
It's really a fancy pedometer, so it measures steps. If you have it on your waist, it's not able to detect the extent of your activity when you are biking. So I go to the website, click "log activity" and enter the type of activity and the amount of time. The fitbit overrides the data it collected during that period of time, so it is not double-counting the calories you burned. I imagine it's a similar procedure for those who sync to their phones. Another one to look at is the jawbone. A friend has one and really likes the sleep tracking features.
