I've seen a few references recently to fees on top of private school tuition. How much do these fees typically run, and what do they include?
$1,000- $2,000 deposit at acceptance PA dues $50-$150 dollars/year $350-$500 books at some school $160/mos for lunch at some schools $14/hr for after care ( 3-6pm) or $25/hr drop in rate if not signed up in advance Annual Fund ( roughly $4,000 per enrolled child expected yearly if you are full pay $5,000- $10,000 donation to at least on Capital Campaign while your child is enrolled ( expect capital campaigns every 5 years) $100-$150 annual book fare Annual Auction 2 tickets at $250 each plus at minimum one bid / year with expectation of bid on a large ticket item of $10,000 or more before your child graduates.
OP here. Wow. Seriously? Isn't the $1,000 - $2,000 deposit considered part of tuition? What happens if you don't contribute to the annual fund or go to the annual auction or bid on something while you are there? (Sorry if these questions are naive. I really am trying to understand how it all works.)
The deposit is separate and at some schools it is close to $2,000 payable once at enrollment. You get it back when DC leaves teh school, tjough at our school parents were pressured ot donate it ( sent a letter stating that if they did not ask for their deposit back in writing in 30 days from date of letter it woudl be assumed to be donated to the school) Nothing will "happen" to you if you do not donate to annual fund, but the names of who gives are published in each years' annual report along with the range taht you gave ( $50-$200, $2,00-$750, $750-$2,000 etc..) some schools send out an email "proof read" of the annual fund donation notes so that you can perhaps gut check on your name not being listed or listed for giving $100 ( when you live ina 3 million dollar home, say) For capital campaign, again, nothing will "happen" if you don't give, but be prepared for soem of the people you consider your closest friends ayt the school to be the ones calling you stepford like, asking you to contribute . Of coarse many are happy to, and do so willingly out of gratitude, but just know that if you are full pay, you will be called each and every time. Also, grand parents are solicited as well and multiple times a year. As for auction itemes, seems its kind of a "known thing that is simply what one does" ( lay out siome serious cash at least once in DC's time at school) Its not required, its unwritten, but if you don't well...... Lastly just be aware some of teh giving is sincere and heart felt ( best kind) , but at times it is also part of jockeying for board positions or hedging against a DC's behavior probelms or poor academic performance ( or both) , particulalry if the school is NOT a K-12.
