I had to google it, I have never even heard of this school. The scores are atrocious (8 - 10% proficiency), but if it is true that half the students don't show up on any given day, that's hardly a surprise. I don't get why someone decided to make a documentary about this particular school. They could have picked a HS with more than 253 students, low scores, and still made a significant point about the quality of DCPS.
Who knows? Perhaps they want to show what some schools have to deal with. Apparently, it will follow the hardships of some of the students and help the viewers understand exactly why some schools are having such a difficult time making the grade. Look at what they're working with. PBS will air a documentary about a high-performing school in NY that's attended by very rich students. I suspect the juxtaposition is to show just how unequal our education systems are in this country. I forgot the name of the NY documentary and don't know when it's set to air.
