She could be bored. Unmotivated, other things are more interesting than the lesson. She isn't invested in getting higher marks. Is your daughter upset by her lack of focus? Is she frustrated she is trying and can't do better?[/quote] OP here. She isn't bothered by this at all (which makes me even more concerned). She just doesn't seem to care. I talked to her yesterday about tests in general and she said tests were not important. Well, she has a point, but they are kind of important because they are one of the many ways to measure achievement. It's just really hard to explain this to a not-yet 7 year old... I would like to avoid drugs if at all possible, but am willing to consider them as a last resort. We have a ped. appointment coming up in a month or so and I will definitely ask, I just wanted to get some ideas from other on what this could be, if this is normal, age-appropriate or something beyond that, so at least I go to the appoitnment with some pointed questions. Thank you for the thoughts everyone, keep them coming!
Of course not. She's 7 YEARS OLD!! Why should "tests" be important to her now? What's next, trying to explain to her that she'll never get into Harvard unless she improves her focus? OP, I think you need to relax. She is a child, developing at her own speed, in her own way. She will figure out eventually -- possibly after a few (gasp) failures -- that this stuff really does matter.
