I really think the best approach is to just kind of float. Be friendly with everyone, but you don't need close friendships with anyone. Let your kids pick their own friends and just support that. Think of the other parents like colleagues. You might work together at some point if your kids become friends, but you don't want to get too involved because you also might wind up with kids who don't gel.

Look elsewhere for the bulk of your socializing. Your kids' school is some place you are just passing through.[/quote]
