There are summer workouts that I believe in the past rising freshman can attend (and likely should if able to in order to get fit and get to know the coaches). It is tryout but I think they try hard to include as many as they have equipment for and that they believe can safely play.

Registration for tryouts is in July and there are medical pre clearances before tryouts that you have to turn in. Tryouts are usually about the week before school starts (make sure to get these dates - usually around 8/12, but please double check me).

It might be worth emailing the athletic director at WJ to ask about how to sign up for information on football summer workouts. There is a new football coaching staff going into the next year, but they have already started putting out schedules for summer workouts etc.

My son had never played before but did summer workouts as much as he was able last summer and had a positive experience in the fall.
