Great! For those who don't want to click: Platinum recognition: BASIS Banneker Duke Ellington Jackson Reed McKinley Tech Washington Latin School Without Walls Gold: E.L. Haynes Silver: Columbia Heights EC Bronze: Cardozo
And for those who don't want to find the criteria the Platinum distinction means at least 50% of students at the school earned at least one 3, 15% of the students took at least 5 AP's (including at least 1 in 9th or 10th grade), and 80% of students took at least 1 AP.
That bar is so low for platinum it’s nearly underground.
This is a fair criticism. As are the complaints about the awards criteria being self serving for the college board (and the general distaste with the monopolistic behavior of the AP cartel). That said it explains why if a student can amass a healthy string of 4s and 5s in the core subjects, it can really move the needle college admissions wise. Despite what this board would have you believe, most HS kids are not taking that many APs. and yes, for the super elite snobs amongst you, 12 or 13 4s and 5s are at best table stakes for the 25 or so most selective colleges and universities. But once you get past that list, the rigor they demonstrate carries great weight.
