[/quote] There are brands of puffed rice cereal that are gluten free, so they have looked familiar to the kid, especially if the teacher or parent told them "this is gluten free". People here seem to be blaming the parent, but I'm going to say that it's really common for schools not to notify parents and then to serve a snack they "think" is safe. I know several kids who have had experiences with gluten or foods they are allergic to where a teacher was very insistent that the product was safe, and the kid eventually broke down and ate it.
