I think Hirschhorn is Wednesdays and American art/portrait gallery is maybe Monday? Both have classroom spaces you wouldn’t otherwise find. American art is wonderful on a rainy day to have the big courtyard. Also the building museum nearby is worth a membership for the LEGO room alone.

Btw, if you’re not taking metro, the Hirschhorn story time starts at 10. The street parking rush hour ends at 9:30. So you want to pull up at 9:35, and you’ll be able to park easily. Then just kill time in the gardens until it opens. You’ll see a big line of strollers starting to queue.

In case you just moved her I feel compelled to also mention the national gallery tunnel connecting the east and west wings has a light up tunnel and a big fountain. The American Indian museum has the best cafeteria and a fantastic kid space, especially for toddlers. There is a set of play houses with play food and stuff and a really insane view of the Capitol.

American history also has a great toddler space with the Julia child kitchen etc.

Our city has its issues but for free toddler stuff, the mall is the place. It’s world class, imo. [/quote]
