Puppy is 9 months old and “house trained” in the sense that if I stay very on top of his needs and don’t make him wait, he’s doing great on going potty outside. I still crate him when we’re away mostly because he would destroy things. At night though, I’m starting to feel bad because I feel like he would be more comfortable on a big dog bed, but I don’t think I can trust him not to just wake up and pee. Is this an age thing? It’s been so long since I had a puppy, I forget, and the last puppy was way easier to houstrain anyway.
He needs to be crated whenever you cannot actively supervise him if this is the case. That includes at night while you are asleep. My neighbors let their Lab puppy sleep in their room and he chewed the baseboards under their bed. He ended up with lead poisoning and cost them God knows how much in vet bills. Crates keep dogs safe.
