We did not love Hot Springs (it seemed run down), but we LOVE Bentonville - it is like mountain biking Disney world. There is also a world class museum, lakes, hiking, etc. We love Petit Jean State Park with younger or reluctant hikers- there are a lot of short trails with great pay offs (boulders to climb, caves, waterfalls). There is just a lot of pretty nature in general. We did end up once in NE Arkansas at a horseback riding place with confederate flags all around, that we had to turn around from, but I had a similar experience near Cooperstown, NY, so just do your research.

I don't know how much I would go out of my way to get to Arkansas, but it is our favorite adjacent state. St. Louis is also super fun - but you have to know what to do and where to go! I find it easier than Chicago with kids.

We have done a lot of the other recs on here - Arizona (Tuscon, Sedona), Puerto Rico, Universal- and also really enjoyed those for spring break! I love taking my kids to NYC (where I used to live) but I usually just go with one or two of the kids- it's not as fun with all 3, I find. Once they are all in middle school it will be easier to go with the whole family.[/quote]
