The best coach for true skills development in the DC area is, without question, Arthur Jackson and his program, One on One Basketball (https://www.1on1basketball.com/). Arthur is a Northern Virginia native (McLean) and a St. Albans graduate who went on to play at Brown University and then professionally overseas, primarily in Europe. That experience shows up in how he teaches the game - grounded in fundamentals, discipline, and a broader emphasis on education, character, and doing things the right way. What really separates Arthur and 1on1 is their philosophy. In a landscape dominated by AAU-style travel programs that often prioritize exposure over development, Arthur focuses on building complete players and, just as importantly, strong, accountable young people. His teams consistently compete and often outperform more high-profile programs across the DMV, not with overwhelming talent but with disciplined defense, unselfish play, and a clear, team-first approach. For what it’s worth, I have no affiliation with Arthur or 1on1. Both of my kids trained and played in the program, and I’ve developed a deep respect for Arthur and his staff through that experience.
I don’t know this guy, but know several who are very good in the area around Dulles, then some in DC, and PG County. This is the DMV there are plenty of good trainers, but unfortunately there are plenty of crooks are worried about getting money annd don’t care whether your kids gets better. Unfortunately, many of us run into the crooks first. My kids are in high school now and they still work out. They regularly work out with a guy in DC and one near Dulles. There are some other trainers I like that I want them to work with this offseason when we get time as well.
