Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) is a training program for high schoolers aged 15 and above that teaches them to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health or substance use challenges in their peers. It empowers teens to support friends, reduce stigma, and connect them with trusted adults.

Participants who complete the tMHFA training will get $100 as an appreciation for their commitment to fostering a supportive school environment.

Location: JSSA Fallsgrove Office, 200 Wood Hill Rd, Rockville, MD 20850, 3rd Floor Boardroom

First Session: 3/16, 3/18, 3/20 from 4:30-6:00 pm or
Second Session: 3/30, 4/1, 4/3 from 10:00-11:30 am
(Must attend all 3 classes in a session)

Participants will learn:
• Common signs and symptoms of mental illness and substance use
• Common signs and symptoms of a mental health crisis, particularly suicide
• How to open a conversation about mental illnesses and addiction with friends
• The impact of school violence and bullying on mental health
• How to seek the help of a responsible and trusted adult

Participants must:
• Be at least 15 years of age and attend a Montgomery County Public High School
• Be available to attend all three scheduled sessions
• Complete a pre & post-participation survey
