My recruited athlete received $0 for their sport at WCAC schools, but scored very high on the HSPT (99th percentile), so DC received merit (Presidential Scholarships) at the schools they applied to. We are full pay, so were not looking for any money, whether for academics or athletics, at any point in the process. For us, having DC be recruited meant that for their sport, and for their position for their sport, the schools could see them making a contribution at those schools and wanted them there.
Thank you! Appreciate that. So it sounds like being recruited was a way for your DC to maximize their athletic experience in HS? Is a DC considered recruited if they were essentially told that they would be in varsity as a freshman? Does that count as recruitment?
Yes, for us it’s about maximizing DC’s experience. Nobody has promised us a specific spot on Varsity. But, our expectation is that DC will be in a position to compete for a spot. If they aren’t on varsity, we are fine with that (their sport is competitive at this school), but we hope they will be in a position to get a lot of good development on the JV team.
