Some college apps want to see it more recent in HS. Better to wait until HS.
Are you saying colleges prefer to see students taking a lower-level language course in high school rather than the highest possible level? This isn’t a one-and-done, it’s the first course in a long sequence, and if you start earlier you advance further in the sequence prior to college applications.
Some colleges place a higher value on "4 years of language in HS". Meaning....you could do either of these to satisfy this college applications trend (it's not explicit but it is a known desirable parameter for admissions at schools like UVA). 9th Spanish 1 10th Spanish 2 11th Spanish 3 12th Spanish 4 OR you could do the following: 7/8th Spanish 1 9th Spanish 2 10th Spanish 3 11th Spanish 4 12th Spanish 5 or AP Spanish My junior in HS took this second route and is having a hard time in Spanish 4 HN and is dreading taking another level as a senior next year. I wish she had not started Spanish 1 until 9th grade. Basically, she could have taking something fun in MS like another theater class or art and saved the world languages for HS.
