Thank you everyone! Im not looking forward to surgery but will be very glad to have the polyp removed. Also I read there is a procedure called Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) that is minimally invasive and hoping I will be a candidate for that. ( it’s done at a hospital with regular anesthesia but through a scope, not laparoscopic) Anxious for the meeting to discuss with the doctor.
I had this procedure in hopes of fully removing a polyp/growth. It's not much different from a colonoscopy procedure. Unfortunately for me, the procedure/surgeon confirmed that for me the polyp had grown too far into the intestinal wall and a resection ended up being necessary. But it was worth trying. I hope you have better luck. Let us know.
PP, thanks so much for sharing. I’m sorry the ESD did not work out in your case and they ended up doing a resection. It must be a good feeling to know that growth is now gone, even though you had to have surgery. I’m curious how long you had to wait between the two different procedures? Keeping fingers crossed it will be an option for me.
I’m the pp. I’m answering because you asked but please understand I had particularly bad luck because my mass was so low in the colon. I knew my mass was cancerous from the first colonoscopy. The EDS confirmed that a resection would be required. With docs recommendation, I had chemo and radiation before the resection. So had to wait about 4 months. I’m most cases, I think the surgery could be done as soon as it can be scheduled. Good luck.
