When Cap Classic first started, they did not attract any teams from outside the DC/MD/VA area. It is the clubs in this area who first supported this tournament and helped it get off the ground. Without these clubs, the tournament never would have materialized into anything. Now, however, Cap Classic has seemingly turned its backs on its roots. Every year, there are tons of local teams that are denied acceptance, simply due to economic reasons (international/out of state teams bring in more money for the tournament). [/quote]

Agree. It is their tournament and they are free to do what they want.  But the pursuit of higher revenue has moved the tournament far away from what made it great for years: A tournament where you knew all the CHRVA teams would be able to compete, local teams got a the "travel tournament" experience and where the competition level was well above the average competition level of a typical local tournament.

If you look at the registered teams for the club, patriot and open levels at U13-U17 the ONLY local club with more than one entry in any of those divisions is Metro (who averaged 4 in club, 1 in patriot and 2 in open).  No other local club was allowed to have 2 teams in any division.  Every other multiple team club is coming from out of town.  And when you look across divisions, none of the larger clubs seem to have 3 teams in any age group either. Contrast this with the clubs traveling in having teams ranked ranked 3500+ last year.  There were 50+ local teams ranked higher than that in most age groups.

They must have had a rule this year about not allowing more than 1 local team to compete in a division because that maximizes profit. It certainly wasn't done to ensure a high quality competitive tournament or many more local teams would have been allowed to compete.
