My teen that age doesn’t usually use a purse but I talked her into one for Spain so she didn’t need to worry so much about putting her phone done skmewhere or having it grabbed out of her hand or pocket.  My son almost lost his phone in Rome because he was sitting in a cab  and it came out of his pocket — luckily I noticed it on the seat before the cab drove off.  It always stinks to lose your phone but stinks especially when you are in a foreign country without your parents![/quote]
