Does anyone know any gyms, even half court ones that have access, particularly during these cold times? Beyond the rec centers and fitness clubs, of course. Any hidden gems / gyms?
Welcome to DMV basketball. My kid HS player has worked out in the dark on closed outdoor courts, on outdoor courts he had to shovel snow from, outdoors in the pouring rain, in churches all over the DMV where somebody got permission to use a court and invited him and his core training buddies, and in tons of school gyms by virtue of knowing somebody with access and getting permission from them (and sometimes finding that the person granting permission didn’t have permission to do so and thus getting to meet security guards and cops). It is a real struggle, and extremely frustrating. And open gyms in rec centers tend to be a mess - dozens of kids crowding a court, and very few of them seriously working out. I feel like someone should offer 5:00 AM court time for a fee. I bet it would sell out.
