Where are you getting your numbers, PP?

My DC is in the sixth grade, and I attended both grading period awards ceremonies.  At those ceremonies, IIRC, three types of awards are given: 90's club for the kids with an average of 90 or better for the grading period, most improved for kids with the highest increase in average grades since the previous grading period, and top 5% for the 5% of the kids with the highest cumulative average grades.

I have never seen close to half the sixth grade receive a 90's club award.  I think the number is more like 15%, but I will try to count them at the next award ceremony so that I can report more accurate numbers.

Of course, it is possible that fifth grade is significantly easier that sixth, but I doubt it.

To answer the question you pose, though, BASIS really is as hard as people think.

My bright DC works very hard to earn those grades and those awards.  That said, DC has learned more in four months at BASIS than in any previous grade, so it is well worth the work.
