How does the process work for a recruited athlete to apply to private high schools? Should they begin reaching out to the coaches in 7th grade? What are the tests they are looking for? Which schools offer the most generous packages? Looking at STA, Bullis, Prep, Gonzaga, Sidwell, Landon, etc.
Start looking as soon as possible. SSAT test for most schools and HSPT for the Catholic high schools, except Georgetown Prep. I think Prep uses the SSAT. The Catholic schools usually have cheaper tuition, again Prep being the exception. All the schools will look at your income and decide what you can afford to pay. In some cases, the school’s admissions department may decide that the students family needs too much aid and waitlist or reject. I personally think schools like Prep, Episcopal, St Albans will offer the most generous packages because they offer boarding, study halls, and lots of activities for the students after school hours. Schools with the largest endowments have the most money to give, but some schools that are big on sports may receive large amounts of money donated specifically to the sports programs.
