And it's also an ignorant way of understanding etymology so wielding the claim doesn't impress me. Headmaster and headmistress are old English terms. The American prep schools were consciously modeled after English private schools (or public schools as they traditionally were called). "Headmasters" were already being phased out in the US in 1990s.
