I discussed my offer for a senior IC role with the recruiter today. The role would require relocation. I asked about an increase in both salary and what they’re offering for relocation. He intimated that if I were in a higher-status role the negotiation would be easier/ a no brainer, but seemed to indicate my asking was an inconvenience and/or out-of-line. Obviously I didn’t really feed into his intimations but is this a red flag or a normal recruiter response?
It means you aren’t the hot shit you think you are. The fact that you had to come post this here indicates the recruiter is probably right. I mean, come ON. Are you clueless?
I had the same thought
What a weird statement. I’m being offered a role and asked for more. I always ask for more. Is this not standard? Does it indicate that I think I’m “hot shit”? If you’re gonna get more you have to establish that at the outset. No one is able to successfully negotiate once they’re locked in.
Not a weird statement at all. You simply don't understand it. Your request for more does not indicate that you "aren't the hot shit you think you are." Your attempt to negotiate salary is to be expected. It is your befuddlement over the recruiter's response to it that indicates that you are failing to understand your place here and your worth in the context of this particular job.
