Catholic schools in Pittsburgh are half the price of the high schools here. One assumes they are partly subsidized by the archdiocese there. ADW could do that too. It's a matter of priorities. And clearly the ADW thinks we're all rich enough to afford the tuition.
ADW does subsidize SJC and Good Counsel. Pittsburgh has a far lower cost of living than the DMV, so that’s an unfair comparison. The tuition at SJC and GC is substantially lower than that of other private high schools in the area.
SJC and Good Counsel are independent and do not get funding from the archdiocese. Archbishop Carroll and Don Bosco are the only high schools that are diocesan schools and receive ADW funding. Almost all the K-8 parish schools are funding solely through tuition and the parish as well, with just a few exceptions. The archdiocese may help with extraordinary expenses for repairs like a sudden roof or HVAC situation, but the parishes keep the schools running.
Elizabeth Seaton and Ryken are also not independent
