I was in the market to buy something, used and affordable and OK something that drives, like Toyota Kia Honda Nissan All the prices seem wildly inflated since I last looked ... is that tariffs for all the supposedly affordable cars? A guy told me last week I should buy what he has, it was $31K for a new model a few years ago I went on the website for the dealer nearest me and the same model was like $37K for a 2026 Is this tariffs? I have some medical appointments that apparently will cost me $40 a trip so $80 round trip And I have jury duty coming up in like 2 months so who (?) knows But I get all groceries delivered, I'm older, no kids I'm now wondering if it's the best financial decision to stop owning a car altogether, even though I live in the (sort of) sticks where everything commercial is at least 4 miles away and not walkable
It depends on how dependent you are on a car. I have lived without a car for years, but that is because I live in the city and can walk to the grocery store, the dentist, the doctor, the urgent care center, the gym, the library, the hardware store, etc. If I had to drive to all these things and then needed to depend on calling on an uber to get to those places, I think it would get old fast.
