Yes to this. Not for this class, but a number of students switched from DE English to AP after a couple weeks this year because the DE class was being taught in a very challenging way and they figured they should at least get credit for taking the hardest class if they are doing the work. Depends on the teacher, so talk to people in your community. [/quote]

It is not that DE is more challenging than AP.

DE curriculum wise is less challenging with less rigor than AP.

Where DE becomes problematic is that DE is not allowed to follow FCPS late work policy.  DE must follow NOVAs late work policy, so if you have a disorganized kid who struggles with meeting deadlines, their DE grade can tank very quickly.

AP is much more challenging and rigorous than DE, but AP follows FCPS late policy, so the kids who are disorganized have more leeway with missing deadlines or breaking work into smaller parts for their accommodations.

If your kid is a B/B+/A student who is good with deadlines, than DE will work for them because the class is less rigorous than AP with the same 1.0 gpa boost, as long as your kid turns stuff in on time.  If they are organized, DE can give them a little breathing room as it is an easier program.

If they struggle with turning in their assignments, then DE will be rough, not because DE is harder than AP but because DE does not have the FCPS grace period for late work.[/quote]
