What you need to ensure is having a well-rested kid. If they have so much homework that they're not getting enough sleep before the test, that's a problem, and this is where you contact the teachers and negotiate something.

But honestly no middle school doesn't give that much homework that a kid would need to go to bed late to finish it. If your child has problems in that area, they might have low processing speed, like one of my kids, and need to be formally diagnosed and receive extended time accommodations.

Or if they have too much on their plate because of extra-curriculars, then maybe this week they should skip some of those activities.

I hear you, but disagree on your point about not studying up until the last minute.  What is wrong with reviewing a few key concepts each night to increase the score? Why wouldn’t you?  Planning isn’t the issue. The issue is teachers assigning quizzes and busy work with minimal notice in the days leading up to the exam.  ChapGpt isn’t going to help them memorize a prayer that they were tested on the day prior.  They have to put the work in to get the homework done.  It would have been nice if the teachers had given them homework last week that would have directly helped them prep for the HSPT instead of homework that took time away from that effort. [/quote]
