This is not at all different from any other preference people pick — gender preference, health preference, eye or skin color. Why wouldn’t the choosers weed out fat people? FTR I think the whole industry and those who participate are grotesque, but this is a very natural and obvious progression that many of us saw coming (and warned about).
Most people, if they are able to, choose skin and eye color the same as their own. An egg free of any known genetic mutations is ideal. As for looks that’s just a crap shoot and he’s a moron if he thinks the egg is some kind of clone of the mother, like he’d get an exact copy of the mother. What’s the father look like? If it’s him then he won’t get his model baby.
That is the parent’s choice. The government should play no role in this decision. It’s a very slippery slope for the government to start regulating fertility services and this will be used as a backdoor way to ban or restrict access to IVF entirely. Dont fall for the fake moral outrage over a handful of weird people making family planning decisions. Anti IVF advocacy groups will use these rare examples of bad behavior to justify widespread regulations on that prevent people with infertility issues from having children at all.
