Saturday I know there was a tech glitch for the computer system for one of the pools, which delayed the meet mobile data. Today is running much smoother. The meets always been this big. Teams need to work with their parents to not be jerks. They were cursing out volunteers yesterday and refusing to listen to facility staff about rotating out of the lobby/stands when their kids are not swimming. If parents would just rotate everyone could see their kids swim. Instead, parents sit all day in the lobby on computers or reading books in the stands and then the parents that show up later can't get in or can't see. Coaches need rules for their parents to not ruin it for everyone else.
Um, no, today was not actually smoother. it took a _lot_ of time for prelims results to be posted so families knew whether they were coming back for finals... or simply staying put for finals because of how ridiculously long the afternoon sessions were. Time between heats was longer than it should have been. Time between events was longer than it should have been. And why? Because there were too many swimmers and too many variables for the facility and organizers to manage. Too many people staying where they were? That's because the host organization didn't actually enforce the no chairs rule. If they had, people would have left the lobby to sit in their cars or walk around outside. But since anyone who wanted a chair was apparently allowed to establish a personal campsite, that's not what happened. And one of the areas that should have been given over to spectators - the glassed-in room adjacent to the lobby - was assigned to a _team_ for lack of space. People also couldn't leave because the meet wasn't following its own timeline - kids were swimming 30 minutes after announced event times. It's frankly a miracle that there weren't multiple medical emergencies under the circumstances, even just someone falling or passing out from the heat (at least not that I heard of - there could have been at other sessions). And spectators weren't climbing all over one another to participate more actively in this mess? Shame on you, SA, for not changing your approach after day 1. You should have extended the sessions, recalculated the heat times, banned spectator chairs, announced a maximum facility capacity (which the facility manager had to improvise on the fly), and allowed warmups for finals to begin as soon as prelims were over. You should also have doubled the number of volunteers from your own organization while apologizing to everyone else.
