Yale's likely letters are almost always sent to first gen and/or low income kids and most are for STEM. The stats are high but nothing more remarkable than any other strong applicant. And sometimes they're even pretty low--1400s SAT, etc. It's the FGLI status that triggers the letters. They very, very rarely send them to the typical DCUM demographic.
my nephew got one last year for humanities. he's an UMC white kid who lives in an UMC/UC suburb of chicago. they were even asking for aid
They do send some to UMC kids (and the fact that he asked for aid doesn't matter) but the general point of them is to get FGLI/URM kids to choose them over the other Ivies and top20 schools. Columbia sends them too as does Penn I believe. On Reddit there are always kids who get 2-3 of them from different schools or who receive personal calls from admissions officers in advance of the ED and RD acceptance dates. They're usually FGLI minorities from places like Missouri and are the absolute rockstars of their schools and took 10 classes dual enrollment at the local community college because their school doesn't offer APs. They may not even have the best stats in DCUM-land (say 1450 SAT) but they're from high schools where the average SAT is 950. The Ivies fight over these kids and send these letters to try and get them as well they should, I believe. It takes a special kid to be this proactive.
