I received a Vitamix for Christmas and it makes the best smoothies I've ever had. No chunky pieces, ice chunks, and it blends in greens (I've done spinach) extremely well. Totally worth the money if you're going to use it all the time. Clean up is a breeze compared to a regular blender. Fill up halfway with warm water and a few drops of soap and turn it on high for 30-60 seconds, then just rinse it out. The base of the blender doesn't come apart, so there's nothing extra to clean.
I have a Vitamix, and it does mix well. But it's not the miracle-worker I thought it would be. Also, one thing I wish I had known: The blades are not removable, so if you make something like pesto or almond butter, you end up wasting a lot (just because you can't get it out of the blender. And even getting out what you can is something of a pain.)
